Uma Maheswari started her career as a poet, but now she is better known for her short fiction and novel. She was born on 9th November 1971. She did her post-graduation in English. She is a housewife and lives with her family in Anditpatty, Madurai. She started writing poetry in 1985. Her first collection of poems Natchathirangalin Naduve was published in 1990. After a gap of 12 years, she published two more book of poems: Verum Pozhuthu (2002) & Karpavai (2004). She has published 2 volumes of stories: Marapachi (2002) and Tholai Kadal (2004). In February 2003 she received the Katha Award for the best short story in Tamil. She is recipient of other awards like ‘Ilakkia Chinthanai Award.’ She is about to complete her second novel.
