Bio

Appadurai Muttulingam was born in Sri Lanka. A Chartered Accountant by profession, his literary career started at the age of nineteen when he won the first prize in the all Ceylon Tamil short story competition conducted by Thinakaran, a national newspaper. He has published in Tamil so far 9 short story collections, 4 essay collections, two interview collections, two novels and edited one anthology of book reviews. He won many awards from Tamil Nadu Government, India from Sri Lanka Government Sahitya Academy award. He also won S.R.M. University (India) literary award for Amerikkakari for 2013 and Markham City Council, Canada Literary Award 2014. Selected short stories translated in English under title Inauspicious Times was published in 2008 and another collection of short stories translated in English entitled ‘After Yesterday’ is under way. His short story ‘The American Girl’ was included in the book Many Roads Through Paradise, an anthology of Sri Lankan literature published by Penguin Books in 2014. He lives with his wife Ranjini in Markham, Canada.
